​The Alaska Gateway School District (AGSD), headquartered in Tok, Alaska, spans approximately 28,000 square miles in the eastern interior of the state, extending from the Alaska Range to the Yukon River and the Canadian border. The district operates eight schools, including Tok School, Dot Lake School, Eagle Community School, Mentasta Lake School, Tanacross School, Tetlin School, Walter Northway School, and the REACH Academy, a district-wide correspondence school. All schools serve grades K-12, except for Tanacross School, which serves K-8. As of the 2022–2023 academic year, AGSD enrolled approximately 386 students, with a student-teacher ratio of 11:1. The student population is predominantly American Indian or Alaska Native (63.2%), followed by White (29.3%), with the remaining percentage comprising other ethnicities. The district faces unique challenges due to its remote location and extreme weather conditions, with average January lows of -32°F and July highs of 72°F. AGSD emphasizes community involvement and cultural knowledge, aiming to provide quality education tailored to its diverse student body. ​
